Neurological and Spinal Surgery, LLC offers Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MIS). With minimally invasive procedures, the incision is small and the muscles near the patient’s spine are often moved aside or spread apart rather than being cut.
Because of the reduced trauma to the muscles and soft tissue, the benefits include:
- Less blood loss from surgery
- Reduced risk of muscle damage due to less or no cutting of the muscle
- Reduced risk of infection
- Reduced postoperative pain resulting in less reliance on pain medications after surgery
- A quicker recovery from surgery and less rehabilitation
- Better cosmetic results from smaller skin incision
Conditions treated using MIS Procedures include:
- Herniated Disc
- Degenerative Disc
- Lumbar spinal stenosis
- Sacroiliac Fusion – SI Joint & Lower Back Pain- Dr Gogela
- Spinal instability
- Spinal infections
- Spinal tumors
- Vertebral compression fractures
As with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks associated that include but are not limited to: possible adverse reaction to anesthetic, unexpected blood loss during procedure and localized infections.
Our physicians will be able to tell you if minimally invasive surgery is an option for treating your spinal condition. In some cases, MIS may not be as effective or safe as the traditional open surgery. Our physicians will be able to discuss the risks and benefits of each procedure. Some conditions are not accessible with MIS surgery.
